If a sample type meta field with the specified key already exists it is overwritten; otherwise a new meta field is created.

Note: the sampleTypeMetaID is always newly created, even on an overwrite. Do not use this call to update an existing combo, checkbox, or radio field that has existing samples if you do not want to disconnect the mapping.
